Matsumoto Newsroom - All News
On Tuesday, August 18, I held a brief meeting to introduce myself and answer a few questions. You can review my slides by clicking here.
You can watch the recording by clicking here.
Here are the FAQ's from the meeting:
Will there be a minimum day this year?
We will not have a minimum day Thursday. We will have Independent Work on Wednesdays. Students will be live in class from 8:30 - 9:30 every Wednesday. The rest of the day will be spent completing independent activities assigned by the teacher. These Independent Work Wednesdays will allow our teachers to learn about the best strategies for learning in an online environment, to work together to plan and create engaging lessons, and support students needing intervention.
Students are required to attend class during the entire scheduled instruction block. If they are having connectivity issues or technical difficulties, they may be marked absent. Please call our office at (408) 270-4873 or Tech Help at (408) 270-6766.
Recording a Virtual Meeting
Teachers are allowed to record their Zoom meeting for instructional purposes. Recordings are for a teachers own learning purposes, and cannot be posted or shared publicly without parent permission.
As much as possible, I want to bring back opportunities that students experience during a "normal" school year. I am working with teachers, PTA, and parent volunteers to continue programs like Math Olympiad, Yearbook, and student council. I am hosting Coffee with the principal every other Thursday. Please look at our calendar for dates and registration links.
Grading and Assessment
Students will be graded using traditional grading scales. We will not be suspending grading like we did in the Spring trimester. The California Department of Education has not yet released information about CAASPP testing in 2021. We will participate as directed by the state. We will be utilizing i-Ready for diagnostic assessments and online practice. This will help our teachers review your child's progress, and determine the best instruction to meet their needs.
Lifetouch, our Yearbook publisher, informed us that their production facility was closed due to an outbreak of COVID-19. They are working to publish books as quickly as they can, as they come back into service. As soon as we receive the books in our office, we will contact families to schedule pick up.
